How to gather? Acting in a Center in a City in the Heart of the Island of Eurasia

Under challenging circumstances, the Moscow Biennale of Contemporary Art opts for a radical format and changes its structure: the biennale will be condensed into ten days. Artistic, discursive and reflective moments will shape the space. Located in the Pavilion No.1 of VDNKh, it is here that the Moscow Biennale will evolve, as a think tank in real time.

Biennale: Sept 22 - Oct 1, 2015

Keynote - Ackbar Abbas

26 SEPTEMBER
19:00 - 20:30hrs

Ackbar Abbas’ keynote for the biennial derives from his research on Chinese culture and identity and his practice as a Professor in the United States for Comparative Literature. Through the framework of “volatility” Abbas will offer a reading of current global conditions such as financial crises and their impact on cinematic and artistic departures. In a time where no values of one cultural perspective can provide a frame of reference for an adequate understanding of the world we live in anymore, this keynote will elaborate on the question: “Which epistemes could offer leads to the dynamic societal, cultural and economic contexts we find ourselves in?”
